House Style Analysis- NME

NME stands for New Musical Express and is a British magazine. This magazine features music genres such as Indie, Rock and Alternative music.

COLOUR SCHEME

This magazine's colour scheme is very obvious throughout the front page, the contents page and the DPS's making it have an effective housestyle. The colours seem to be based around the NME logo mainly. Colours such as yellow have also been added, as the people featured on the front have painted faces which also links to the colour scheme (yellow included). the colour scheme is mainly black, white, red and yellow has been added.

IMAGES/GRAPHICS

The main images on the front page have been taken at a close up angle. This image is of the band featured on the DPS. There are also sub-images at the top of the front cover, which is beneficial to the band as the main focus will be on them. The contents page is very similar when it comes to mainly having one image, so that the reader can focus on that. Finally, the DPS is the same in context of having one main image to allow the readers to ponder on, which adds to the housestyle of this magazine.

LAYOUT/STRUCTURE

The structure of the housestyle has been maintained very effectively. Both the contents page and front page are very neat in terms of text and images. There is no congestion, which makes the magazine clear and readable. On the DPS, it has also been made neat and presentable. The image, text and headline have all been given the right amount of proximity for the reader to enjoy, absorb and understand the content.

TYPEFACE

The typeface throughout the magazine seems to be sans-serif font. However, the editors added an element of formality by adding a drop caps to the body of the text. The drop caps was emphasised through making it the only serif font visible,  making that particular section significant and eye-catching.
