Front Page Analysis
Rocksound

This is the headline of the magazine. The headline is presented in an almost slightly jolted layout. It's very simplistic as the typeface is in blue block capitals. Next to the headline, there is also an editorial featured under the masthead. The editorial is partially in graphics that are not as simplistic, which is presented in a dark colour. However, underneath the pink is brought back and created a vibrant and lively tone.
'Rock Sound' is a British magazine which usually covers rock music, emo, punk, etc. The magazine is seen as being more "underground" and less commercial, and also gives coverage to more well-known acts and hardly covers indie rock music at all. It seems to have a mass market audience of those who prefer heavy rock metal music.
The magazine is published monthly at £3.99 and has a total circulation of 13,924

This is the masthead of this magazine, which is presented in the form of a banner, as it goes across the front page. The masthead is slightly hidden behind the editorial. The graphics in the typeface are very closely related to the band featured, 'All Time Low', as they're a rock band and the fuzzy text correlates with their style. Also, when it comes to the colour of the masthead it's a pink which is very bright. This may have been used to allow it to stand out on a yellow background.

This cover line has been presented along with a graphic. This article is taking graphics into consideration, as there is a change in typeface for the cover line heading. This seems like an exclusive story, as the artist is making a confident gesture. The tones in the headline are very bold and happy, which really portrays the idea of the 'dramatic return'. The layout is also very slanted, with a basic typeface expressed in the form of a banner.
This is the bar code of the magazine, which is located on the front page. The bar code is there just to give general information on the magazine. This includes it price, issue number and also website where the circulation can be obtained.

The strapline of this particular magazine has been separated into two parts. The colour scheme of both statements seem to be corresponding well. The first section is 'free cd', this has been written in a blue and white typeface upon a dark black background. The idea of something being 'free' gives the frequent readers (mass market audience) more of a reason to purchase the magazine. This may be because as it makes the magazine seem as if it has more value for money. By giving away a free cd , the magazine is promoting the artists to even more readers, a ssome will buy the magazine for free merchandise. The other statement is on a white background in blue and black text and is advertising a poster that comes with the cd that can be found in the magazine. These contrasting colours are very eye-catching to the audience, yet they correlate as they are in the same colour scheme. Both texts are emphasised as they are on a bright yellow coloured background, which may draw attention towards the free gift, which would make it more desirable. The 'free cd' is also portrayed in the form of a banner, which contains an arrow pointing toward the other free item inside, which would promote the artists hugely.

This is the main graphic of this magazine. It features a band known as 'All time Low', an American rock band who have many fans through their huge single such as 'Missing You' and 'Weightless'. By using the close up shot of the main vocalist of the band, and a mid long shot of the other bad members may create a certain mass market audience as many fans may be majorly drawn in by the main band member, but still also be attracted to the others. the positioning of the band members, attracts many readers as people will be drawn automatically to the main image. In order to recognise its a band, the rest of the band members have been positioned behind him to show their significance also, in a particular way. The band's facial expression shows they are trying to portray a fun atmosphere especially as the main band member is doing rock hand signs, which adds emphasis to the idea of them being 'back'. Also, their clothing correlates nicely with the genre of the magazines hybrid, of being fun and laid back. The magazines background is also a very simple neutral yellow, with plain white and seems to correlate with the image. The photo seems to have been taken in a studio, on a backdrop as they have been edited to look as if they're holding things on the magazine, e.g banners.
Overall, this magazine seems to have content that purely focuses on American rock music. The language used is very lively, and expressive, which makes you want to read more. The headline of this magazine, contains the use of harsh sounds in the word, which may be used to impress and catch the attention of readers. This magazine in similar to magazines such us Rolling Stone and Kerrang ( may also be rivals as they all focus on the music industry), as they all include rock music. They also maintain the idea of the main image keeping the main focus. Finally, throughout the magazine the typeface has been altered to go well with the magazine.
