KERRANG is mainly a rock magazine that is published weekly. The magazine is known as KERRANG because the cracked style in the masthead highlights the onomatopoeic sound found in electric guitars associated with rockers.

 

COLOUR SCHEME

 

The colour scheme across the front page, contents and the DPS maintains the same deep purples, black and white which makes the housestyle. This also adds to the emo feel of the magazine, which would draw the target audience in. Along the front and contents page, there is also an element of bright electric yellow which is used in important sections, especially on the contents page (banners for headlines) which illustrates the idea of the editor trying to draw the mass market audience into that section.

TYPEFACE

When it comes to text on the front cover there is a hybrid as it ranges from sans to sans-serif font. The editor uses a range of typeface which gives the illusion of nice graphics, because the style has added emphasis on the excitement of the magazine. On the contents page, again there is a vast majority of congested text, which adds to the housestyle as its the same as on the front page. Finally, along the various DPS the typeface is maintained to make the magazine exhilarating. For headlines, there is a serif font along with the drop caps. Also, for the main body the font has been made sans-serif so that its readable.

LAYOUT/STRUCTURE

The front cover has a lot going on. It mainly consists of typeface that is explaining the content briefly and the image is in the centre. On the contents page, again there is a vast majority of text. In the top right corner, there has been an editorial message added which would encourage the target audience to buy the magazine and also makes the magazine more desirable as it has a personal touch added to it.

IMAGES/GRAPHICS

There is one one main image on the front cover at a mid shot angle, and this is an image of the band featured on the DPS. There are also sub-images at the top of the magazine in the form of a collage. On the contents page, priority has been given to other artists so there mainly images of other musicians. Along the DPS's there are a range of both main and sub-images which adds to the housestyle, because along all the pages there is variety in image types.
